Fewer than 100 smokers fined for breaching ban in Norfolk and Waveney, FOI reveals

The Eastern Daily Press report:

Fewer than 100 smokers in Norfolk and Waveney have been fined for lighting up in public places since the smoking ban became law, new figures reveal.

Only 91 people have received a £50 fine from their local council since pubs, restaurants, and nightclubs became smokefree venues on July 1 2007.

Council officials yesterday said that the ban had been relatively well observed by smokers and premises owners. However, officers continued to inspect establishments to ensure that the ban was still being observed.
