The new National Police Chiefs’ Council will be covered by Freedom of Information legislation in the same way that the body it is replacing is.
It was announced last week that the Association of Chief Police Officers would be replaced by the new NPCC following a vote by its members.
A statement on the body’s website said:
“In July 2014, chief officers voted in support of proposals to establish a new coordinating body that would be hosted by, but independent of, the Metropolitan Police and would replace the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). These proposals were drawn up by a group of chief officers implementing recommendations made by General Sir Nick Parker’s review of ACPO.”
Today a press officer for the ACPO confirmed that the FOI legislation would “automatically” cover the new organisation.
The NPCC is due to come in to force at the beginning of next year when ACPO’s current boss steps down from the role.
