Annual spending on council gifts in Wales rockets 40%, FOI reveals

Welsh authorities have spent more than £15,000 on gifts, a Freedom of Information request has revealed. 

Wales Online report: 

The amount spent by Welsh local authorities on gifts for guests, councillors and employees has increased by two fifths in a year, new figures reveal.

Councils in Wales spent £15,179.35 during 2011-12 on gifts – a 40% surge on the £10,873.68 spent in the previous period.

Crystal decanters, celtic jewellery, bottles of whiskey and boxes of chocolates were among the gifts purchased over the past three years, totalling more than £44,000.
