More than £200,000 of British aid went on encouraging the introduction of freedom of information laws in Bangladesh. 

The Telegraph report: 

DfID defended spending on encouraging foreign governments to develop freedom of information laws.

“The evidence shows that when ordinary people get access to information, they can and will hold those in power to account,” a spokesman said.
