Cambridge Uni students fined more than £38,000 last year, FOI reveals

Unruly students at Cambridge University were fined almost £40,000 last year a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

Students at Cambridge University paid more than £38,000 in fines last year for misdemeanours including drunken behaviour and bringing their college into disrepute.

Newnham College issued fines totalling £12,872 to students in the academic year 2011/12, with £6,719 of that demanded for housekeeping matters such as messy rooms, according to data released under freedom of information laws.

Gonville and Caius imposed fines worth £9,930, Fitzwilliam demanded £6,245, Clare took £1,764 and Girton students were fined £1,275.
