City council spends £31,000 on FOI in a year

Derby City Council received 939 Freedom of Information requests last year it has been revealed. 

The overall cost of the requests came to £31,000, which the council leader isn’t happy about.

Derby City Council dealt with 939 Freedom of Information requests last year – costing £31,500.

The authority is now urging people to think carefully before submitting unusual FOI requests for information unrelated to council business.

Many of the requests submitted between October 2011 and October 2012 were for information on council policy issues or the way funding is allocated.
