It is no wonder motorists are being driven completely potty by the state of our roads – there is one pothole for every single mile.

It can be revealed today that there are more than 200,000 potholes on our highways.

Figures for the year to April also show that compensation claims to local authorities for cars damaged by the craters has soared 79% to 32,600.
