FOI reveals £6m school bill for compensation culture

Critics blame expensive lawyers, often on no-win no-fee deals that earn them more than the amount the victim gets, for bringing compensation culture to the classroom over everyday accidents.

One child got £19,500 for a bump on a slide at a school in Newham, east London, with legal fees adding £35,500 to the bill.

A total of 382 incidents at English schools last year resulted in compensation payments being sanctioned by council chiefs.
