Up to 10,000 British soldiers are classed as unfit for duty today – and would not be risked in active operations on the front line, the Sunday People can reveal.

Many of the injured servicemen and women on the payroll were wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Some will never be able to fight for their country again.
