Hundreds of well-paid executives have had pay-offs and then returned to the Corporation, sometimes just months later.

After receiving settlements averaging nearly £36,000 each, 286 staff have been rehired on permanent or temporary contracts.

The redundancy bill is equivalent to the total TV licence income from a town the size of Luton.
