Birmingham is in the grip of a rat epidemic – shock new figures have revealed.

A total of 11,822 calls were made by rodent-wary residents to Birmingham City Council last year.

That’s more than 11 complaints per 1,000 residents, ranking the authority 10th in the UK for the most rat problems per head.
