FOI reveals brawls, thefts and other crimes at weddings, funerals and wakes

Police were called out to weddings, funerals and wakes almost 550 times during the past 12 months.

Crimes officers attended include a mobility scooter stolen outside a church, a mass family brawl and a wedding guest stealing the happy couple’s presents.

The figures, which come from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, show forces across England and Wales recorded at least 542 calls relating to weddings, funerals or wakes in 2014/15, including 166 incidents involving violence against the person.
