Almost half a million pounds was spent on agency social workers in the region last year.

The council forked out £498,480 to plug staff shortages in social work services in the financial year 2014/15– the equivalent of more than 15 full-time wages.

Scotland’s leading public services union, Unison, said it was alarmed by the amount spent by the council.
