Almost €130,000 has been spent on replacing footballs in Irish prisons in the last three years a Freedom of Information request has revealed.
Remarkably the blame for the need of so many footballs has been placed on razor wire which has burst miss kicked balls.

Razor wire security nets are being blamed for the €40,000-plus being spent on buying footballs in Irish prisons every year, Government documents show.
Almost €130,000 has been spent replacing footballs in jails over the past three years.
Cloverhill, Cork, and Limerick prisons are the biggest buyers and have spent nearly €55,000 between them in the past two years, accounting for two-thirds of the total bill.
