FOI reveals Foreign Office spends £92,000 on Twitter classes

British diplomats have spent close to £100,000 on classes in the use of Twitter and other social networks.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has spent £92,574 since 2010 on training courses for staff, including embassy officials overseas, in using social media.

The figures, in response to a Freedom of Information request, were released a day after British diplomats in Washington angered some Americans by tweeting a photo of a cake laden with sparklers baked to mark the anniversary of the burning of the White House by English troops.
