FOI reveals half of NHS Trusts are in the dark over BYOD usage

A lack of bring your own device (BYOD) policies among health trusts is putting patient data at risk, IT Pro reports.

Virtualisation firm Citrix submitted a Freedom of Information (FoI) request to 35 NHS trusts, finding that two-thirds of them are leaving patient data open to breaches due to a lack of policy to manage employees’ personal devices.

Just over one third (34%) of trusts have policies in place which cover what devices staff can bring into work, and what they can do with them. But more than half the trusts – 18 out of 35 – were unaware whether staff were using personal devices for work purposes.
