Tens of thousands of pounds seized during police operations were stolen by an officer working in the economic crime unit in Hertfordshire, the Mercury can reveal.

Figures obtained by this newspaper show thousands of pounds’ worth of equipment, clothing and cash has been stolen from the police in Hertfordshire between 2010 and 2014.

One of these thefts included an employee of the force stealing £58,383 in cash from police headquarters in Welwyn GC.
