Many more badgers were cage trapped before being shot than were shot ‘free-running’ during the pilot cull in Somerset, Defra has disclosed.

Over the initial six week cull period 500 badgers were trapped before being dispatched, the department has revealed following a Freedom of Information request.

The total shot from longer range without being trapped during the same period was 365.
