Spending on management consultants in the NHS has doubled to £640million a year under the Tories – despite their vow to slash it.

Shortly after the last general election, then-new Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said he was “staggered by the scale of the expenditure on management consultants”.

The NHS spent £313million on them in 2010.
