FOI reveals number of honour crimes higher than recorded

Although there were 2,600 incidents of honour-based crimes recorded by the police between March 2014 and January 2015, Freedom of Information requests reveal the true number to be far higher.

Diana Nammi, founder of the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation, said: “The true scale of the problem still is very unknown, but our finding was that there were over 11,237.

“This shows just the tip of the iceberg. The police don’t take these cases seriously and sensitively. They wouldn’t believe that the problem is so huge.”
