Nice recommends that women under 40 be given three rounds of IVF on the NHS if they have been trying for a baby for more than two years. Yet Freedom of Information requests reveal only 38 of England’s 211 clinical commissioning groups follow these guidelines (down from 48 last year), apparently as a result of trying to reduce costs.

Yes, the cost of the average IVF attempt on the NHS is £3,435 and no, Nice’s recommendations do not come with any money attached but this is one guideline that should be followed.
