PLYMOUTH University’s vice-chancellor took a first class train journey once every eight days on average for three years, racking up an expenses bill of almost £15,000.
The Herald has discovered that Professor Wendy Purcell, who is currently on leave pending an internal inquiry into unspecified allegations, made 142 journeys for university business between 2011 and 2014.
The rate of her journeys has been described as “excessive” by a leading union.
