Officers have deployed the stun guns, which are normally used to subdue violent suspects, on animals in Britain 101 times since 2012.

Most incidents involved dogs, including dangerous breeds such as Staffordshire bull terriers and pit bulls.

In one case, a dog protecting its unconscious owner was tasered after it bit ambulance staff.
