The Derby Telegraph reports:
DERBYSHIRE police are dealing with 25 calls a week about theft of meat and other food from shops and supermarkets.
One of the city’s top cops said the recession, people stealing to pay for drugs and youngsters taking items “for a dare” were the main reasons for the crime.
A Freedom of Information request has revealed that, from April 1, 2012, to March 31, 2013, the force received 1,325 reports of theft of food from shops, which averages out at 25 crimes a week and is an increase from 1,261 the previous year.
