Welsh police forces recorded 376 sex crimes against children under the age of eleven last year, a rise of approximately 25% from 2011/12.

Figures obtained through the Freedom on Information Act show South Wales as the country’s most affected area, with 208 recorded incidents, up from 145 in the previous year.

Neighbouring Gwent is the only Welsh force to have seen a drop in child abuse, from 56 incidents in 2011/12 down to 25 in the past year.
