SURREY County Council has been slammed for paying £3,000 for an office “jolly” to Italy.

Members of the council’s planning committee went on the trip to look at a recycling facility, and were accompanied by an officer for the visit to the plant in Bergamo, near Milan, which uses comparable technology to a proposed Eco Park due to be built in Shepperton.

Councillors argued the trip would help iron out concerns around the proposed waste disposal facility, which is expected to be considered by the planning committee in March.
