FOI reveals two Leicester city councillors argued for pay rise

Two Leicester city councillors said their allowances should be increased when giving evidence to a panel reviewing how much city politicians should be paid.

Documents released by Leicester City Council under the Freedom of Information Act show Labour pair Paul Newcombe and Teresa Aldred argued for an increase in the basic members’ allowance of £9,829.

The councillors, who both represent the Thurncourt ward, both said costs of living had risen and council duties required them to work unsociable hours.
