FOI reveals UK universities bombarded with ‘ransomware’ attacks

Bournemouth University was hit with ransomware 21 times in the last year, new research has revealed.

Ransomware is a popular form of malware that locks or disables part (or all) of a computer system until the victim pays up.

Payment is often made via untraceable digital currency and it’s then up to the hacker to release the computer system, or burn it to the ground and take the money anyway.
