The government will not pay Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson’s tribunal legal fees after it emerged the council taxpayers picked up the £89,000 bill.

Liverpool council paid the legal costs after Mayor Anderson went to an employment tribunal following his dismissal from Chesterfield High School in Crosby.

It emerged in a freedom of information request that the council bore the £89,000k legal costs of his unsuccessful challenge to a decision not to award him compensation.
