Pizza shops, estate agents buying personal data for junk mail, FOI reveals

The Telegraph report:

More than 300 councils have sold information from the electoral register to companies in the last five years, which are then used for marketing purposes.

Some details are being sold for as little as £5 meaning even the smallest shop or business can afford to access the information.

The Electoral Commission last night warned the scale of selling on personal data could even deter people from signing up to the register and therefore losing their right to vote.
