Royal Navy officials have admitted losing a £500,000 radar unit from a £1billion destroyer.

Naval personnel searched through skips for the state-of-the-art device, suspecting it had been thrown out with the rubbish.

Finally they concluded it was probably stolen by a thief who walked on to HMS Dauntless while moored at Plymouth.
