The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner has spent £15,000 on home security for his own house a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

The Sheffield Star report:

South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright has spent more than double what he originally revealed on home security measures.

Former Rotherham councillor Mr Wright, who was elected to the role last November, initially said he was spending £6,500 – but the total is now almost £15,000.

But the police chief said the spending is necessary to protect his wife and family – although he did not disclose whether he has ever suffered any threats to his safety.
