Seaside resort Blackpool has been discovered to be the place in the United Kingdom where police officers have used tasers the most, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

The force has almost 800 officers trained to use the weapons and in total there have been 33 uses in the last three years.

The Blackpool Gazette report:

New figures revealed by a Freedom of Information request show the Tasers have been deployed by officers 33 times in the past three years across Western Division, which covers the resort and the Fylde borough.

And today Blackpool Council’s crime and community safety chief Coun Eddie Collett said he would demand “a detailed explanation” from the police as to why Tasers have been deployed so frequently in Blackpool.

The county’s top firearms cop said rowdy tourists in the resort may be the reason why the weapons are used there more than anywhere else.
