Guildford Borough Council has spent £90,000 in changing “Guildford Pop-up Village” to “The Village Guildford” – and it could spend another £149,000 on the project.

A Freedom of Information request made by Get Surrey has revealed that, in total, the council has spent nearly £1million on The Village Guildford, which before its temporary closure in January had only brought the council £11,000 in income.

The council, which has also revealed more than 5,000 people visited The Village Guildford on the weekend of its reopening, said the recent spend was for the use of specialist events management, tenancy organisers and communications.
