The region’s rat hotspots can be revealed as new figures lay bare the scale of the vermin problem.

Pest call-outs across the North East totalled more than 6,000 for a large chunk last year, with rodents plaguing the lives of many.

In Newcastle, the Benwell and Scotswood ward was the city’s rat capital with the council’s pest control team logging 224 requests between January and October 2016.
