WhatDoTheyKnow hits 250k FOI requests

Online FOI request platform WhatDoTheyKnow.com has passed more than 250,000 requests made using its software.

The website, ran by charity MySociety, is an integral part of the UK’s FOI requesting scene and has helped to reveal heaps of information since it was started.

The website allows anyone to make FOI requests to public authorities and then publishes the questions which were asked and the responses the authorities.

This post from 2012 shows one useful FOI request, which was made on the website, for everyday of the year. Requests included what the BBC thought the risks were of its move to Media City in Salford, the rules of the boatrace, private police forces in the UK and much more.

In a recent blog post the website’s staff wrote:

WhatDoTheyKnow was set up to give everyone, not just experts, access to information.

“By publishing the requests and responses, it strives to create efficiencies for all.”
