More than two million was raised by West Yorkshire Police when they caught motorists speeding on the M62, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report:

ALMOST 40,000 motorists were caught by 50mph speed cameras on a stretch of the M62 last year, it has been revealed.

A total of 39,954 drivers were caught breaking the temporary limit imposed between Brighouse and Rothwell during roadworks.

The fines tally, based on a £60 charge per offence, would reach more than £2m but West Yorkshire Police said speed enforcement was not there as a “cash cow”.
