Almost 6,000 children in the West Midlands have DNA taken by police, FOI request reveals

West Midlands Police have taken the DNA of almost 6,000 children in the last two years a Freedom of Information request has revealed. 

The Birmingham Mail report:

Almost 6,000 children had their DNA swabbed by West Midlands Police in just two years, new figures have revealed.

The number included 456 ten, 11 and 12-year-olds.

Campaigners called the swabbing levels “excessive”.
