East Cambridgeshire District Council has spent £8,500 cleaning up the sites of former illegal traveller camps, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

THE cost of clearing up illegal encampments and traveller sites in East Cambridgeshire has set taxpayers back more than £8,500.

Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act show that East Cambridgeshire District Council has stumped up £8558.88 over the last four years cleaning up and carrying out repairs to various sites across the district.

The bill included the cost of enforcement, legal processes, waste management, removal and storage of vehicles following eviction and works carried out to clean up sites.
