Council workers in Greater Manchester have been hauled before town hall chiefs for disciplinary hearings on more than 1,000 occasions in the past five years – with at least 100 sacked.

Employees were investigated for a range of misconduct offences including fraud; theft; going absent without leave, and misuse of IT equipment – according to information obtained by the M.E.N. under the Freedom of Information Act.
