Some 29 people in the West Midlands have only been handed a police caution for possessing indecent images of children, new figures show.

Among those cautioned by West Midlands Police was a 43-year-old man who had an extreme catalogue of 621 images.

The force has defended the use of cautions in the last three years, adding that this man had been suffering physical ill-health and was housebound.
