FOI reveals 3 in 4 hospitals have no senior doctors overnight

Three quarters of hospitals have no senior doctors working nights, a Mail investigation has found.

Between midnight and 8am, patients are left in the hands of junior doctors who have to make critical decisions based on only a few weeks’ experience.

Although there are designated ‘on-call’ consultants, junior doctors are often reluctant to get them out of bed – putting patients’ lives at risk.
