FOI reveals £3m community money sitting in Cornwall council coffers

CORNWALL Council is sitting on more than £3 million of unspent community money paid by developers for projects in Newquay, the Cornish Guardian can reveal.

Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request show that over the past five years developers paid more than £3.7 million of section 106 money – intended for use in social projects – to the local authority.

The amount is usually negotiated between a developer and a council to help make new building schemes more attractive to communities.
