FOI reveals 400 mobile phones seized in Birmingham Prison in last year

The number of mobile phones confiscated in Birmingham Prison rose to its highest level, despite contractors saying they would reduce the number found, a Freedom of Information request has revealed. 

The Birmingham Mail report:

Inmates are smuggling phones into Birmingham Prison in record numbers – with more than 400 seized in the last year.

Private security firm G4S had pledged to crack down on the phones scam after taking over the jail in October 2011.

But new figures show that the numbers of banned mobiles being seized by officers and staff is at its highest ever level.
