Scottish authorities have paid out almost £350,000 on translators for prisoners, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

Figures have revealed that the Scottish Prison Service has spent almost £250,000 since 2008 on interpretation services for just a tiny fraction of inmates.
Foreigners make up just over three per cent of Scotland’s prison population, but taxpayers are being forced to fork out £136 a day on translators for them.
The figures have sparked anger, with critics demanding that foreign prisoners be made to learn English rather than burdening the public purse .
