A Freedom of Information request uncovered shocking cases across the UK where young thugs were excluded for using knives, guns, axes and even flamethrowers.

Birmingham City Council saw 34 pupils expelled last year over weapons in school, more than any other council that provided data. Nationally there were 173 attacks which resulted in students being permanently booted out.

However, only 36 of England’s 150 education authorities gave detailed responses.
