DOZENS of “serious” breaches of standards involving the care of dead bodies took place in NHS mortuaries last year.

Bodies were dropped or bumped during transit, the wrong bodies were sent to funeral parlours and in some cases the dead were left decomposing on mortuary tables.

The blunders were among scores of mistakes reported during 2012.
