Taxpayers have forked out almost £300,000 on utilities for a prison which hasn’t had any inmates since 2013.

Lights and water have been kept running at HM Prison Reading, even though housed a convicted criminal for more than two years.

It was formally closed by statutory instrument on Wednesday, January 31 in 2014.
