Hospitals are being forced to spend tens of millions of pounds bidding for contracts while A&E departments remain in crisis.

Health chiefs now waste almost £62 million a year bidding for tenders or assessing whether they should make a bid, new figures reveal.

And, the groups which run the complex bidding process says the number of tenders for NHS contracts is like to increase by 58 per cent next year.
