HOSPITAL bosses have shelled out almost £1m on temporary workers because of a critical shortage of nurses.
Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has spent £991,736 on agency nurses in just 12 months to cover staff shortages at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.
Despite the increase of 77 per cent in the agency nursing bill on the previous year, scores of shifts have still gone uncovered, leading to concerns over patient safety.
